The WDEV Radio Rangers

 —  —

Rusty Parker Park , Main St, Waterbury VT

This time Starline's Danny C with the WDEV Radio Rangers, a group he has played in since 1993 (pre-Starline). The Rangers formed in 1986 as a 'live" radio band on Vermont's oldest independently owned station, WDEV in Waterbury. They had a 15 minute show, with sponsorship, on Saturday mornings. That show ended several years ago, but the Rangers still perform some occasional live public appearances during the year. Danny was initially on lead electric guitar and 5-string banjo, which he brought to the group, thus helping to introduce the "bluegrass element" to the band which had been performing largely vintage country, western swing and fiddle music before that. The Rangers now perform all these styles other than fiddle instrumentals Danny is now on acoustic rhythm guitar, banjo and vocals and joins Dave Rowell (who became a Ranger around 1987 or 88) on electric bass/vocals; Colin McCaffrey on electric lead guitar/vocals (replacing Larry Beaudry, who is currently experiencing health issues and who was also the Rangers' lead guitar player before leaving the group in '93 when Danny replaced him) and Jim Pitman, who was always a "Deputy Ranger" playing many radio shows with the group, on pedal steel, dobro & vocals. Good chance to hear the Radio Rangers on their "home turf" in Waterbury, especially with this being WDEV's 90th Anniversary on the air. This concert is FREE. Food/drink and other vendors on-site. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Concert could be cancelled if severe weather/rain, so stay posted. This great community summer series, titled "Music in the Park", has been on-going for many years and is organized by the Waterbury Rotary. The Rangers have played it previously, as have us Starline Rhythm Boys!
